Another New Collection: Test Prep Materials

January 14th, 2010 by Pat | No Comments | Filed in Class of 2010, Class of 2011, Class of 2012, Class of 2013

Historically we have not collected test prep materials but as a response to your requests we have developed a small collection of materials designed to help you study for tests and boards.  The materials are located on the shelves just past the HUB on the right and are meant to be used in the library.  Please browse through these materials and let us know what you think.

Textbooks move from Reserve to School Collection

January 11th, 2010 by Pat | No Comments | Filed in Class of 2010, Class of 2011

The books set aside for you at LHL no longer have to be retrieved by staff members.  To make them more accessible to you we’ve created a SOM School Collection and put all your textbooks on the shelves to right after you pass the HUB.  To ensure equal access to the titles, they can’t be taken from the library but you can use them anywhere in the building.  Please return them to the nearby book truck so we can track the usage before we reshelve them.  Use the link above to see the list of titles.  Let us know what you think of this new arrangement.

5-minute clinical consult 2010 available online

December 10th, 2009 by Pat | No Comments | Filed in Class of 2010, Class of 2011, Class of 2012, Class of 2013

The 5-Minute Clinical Consult 2010 is now available online via Books@OVID.  The book’s Preface describes the new edition as including:

  • Even more Evidence Based designations highlighted in each topic’s text
  • Dedication of our outstanding Associate Editors to oversee content by Specialty
  • Updated Health Maintenance section
  • An online version of the content which includes:
    • Additional topics not in the book
    • Patient Education handouts
    • Video instruction on physical diagnostic and treatment interventions

I found the search a bit awkward and the navigation too basic but the printing and emailing options are easy to find and use.  It includes more references but I would still like to see additional information given to back up the data.  If you are REALLY pressed for time, look at the Clinical Pearls for each topic.  A sentence or two to remember about most conditions.    If you are off campus and can’t get to UpToDate, give this a try.  It used to be a part of Essential Evidence Plus and I would still go there first if I needed a quick review of the data on a given topic.

Let us know which of these tools you find useful.
