How do those new white coats feel? I know you enjoyed PDS and we enjoyed working with you on the Better project. As you go into Fund I and begin working through the nitty gritty of what you came to medical school to learn, remember that we are still here to help. Check the textbooks list to see which Fund I titles are available online. You’ll hear more from us as you get assignments for the course. In the meantime, we hope to see you at tea.
Welcome to the Musculoskeletal/Skin Module. We’ve updated the textbooks list for this module and included all online copies of the texts. Let us know if we can do anything to help as you work through this material. Hope your 2nd year is great!
LHL will be hosting its 3rd annual health fair on Tuesday, August 21 from 9am to 2pm at 1700 University Boulevard.
Health screenings and health information will be provided by several UAB departments, and other health professionals including:
- UAB Comprehensive Diabetes Center-Blood sugar testing
- UAB Dental School
- UAB Hearing Clinic/Audiology Department-Hearing screenings
- UAB School of Optometry-Vision screenings
- University Optometric Group-Vision screenings
- UAB School of Nursing
Also in attendance will be Health InfoNet of Alabama which provides a searchable database of health services around the state. The Healthfest will highlight these kinds of library services for the public among the many local resources for area residents. There will also be food, prizes and other give-aways. Hope you can join us!
Sorry for any confusion about the references for the Better Project. Dr. Huddle says you can either:
1) after each reference in the reference section of your poster, include a sentence explaining what makes that a valid source to cite.
2) submit to the LP in addition to the poster itself a separate word document (identifying your group and your poster topic) listing your references and your justification for using them.
Remember that this time your work is graded pass/fail and we’ll give you feedback that will help when you do this for points in Fund I. Other tips include:
- identify which web source is for consumers/lay people and which is for health providers
- follow the format exactly
- use et al correctly
- cite the format you use, either print or online
Welcome back to campus. I know you are all ready and excited to begin your second year. As you move through the organ modules, please let me know if there is anything we can do to help. Don’t forget about the School Collection of textbooks. We have all the required and recommended titles in print and and some of them online. Just check the Textbooks list for more details. Good luck!
