fmCASES for Family Medicine

July 27th, 2010 by Pat | No Comments | Filed in Class of 2011, Class of 2012, Class of 2013, Class of 2014

The medU portal now includes fmCASES, virtual patients presenting issues to be addressed from a family medicine point of care.

fmCASES’s 29 interactive virtual patient cases encompass the learning objectives of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, Family Medicine Clerkship Curriculum.  These cases will build clinical competency, fill educational gaps, and help instill the core values and attitudes of family medicine.  fmCASES fosters self-directed and independent study, builds clinical problem-solving skills, and teaches an evidence-based and patient-centered approach to patient care.

medU requires you to set up a free account and also includes CLIPP (pediatrics cases) and SIMPLE (internal medicine cases).  Access all from the LHL Databases Page.

One of the best consumer health tools available got a fresh face last week and it is easier to use than ever.  MedlinePlus from the National Library of Medicine updated it’s site making the health topics, tutorials and drug information easier to access.  I really like the clean lines and easy to use search option.  The mobile site, linked from the bottom of the page, worked well on my android phone.  The new logo is even appealing!  Check it out.

LHL School Collections

We have put almost all of the textbooks recommended or required for the first 2 years in the SOM Collection on the first floor of LHL.  I say almost all because there are a few we don’t own.  Hopefully those will be added in the next few weeks.  All the books are listed on the Textbooks and Availability page.   These books can’t be checked out, the idea is to have them available in this area all the time so that they are there when you need them.  For some we have multiple copies, for some online access-linked on the textbook page.  Hope this is useful to you.

ExamMaster has added the ability to create and save flashcards:

A new feature has been added to the Exam Master Online system: Flashcards. You will find this feature available once you log in to your account, in the list of buttons on the left. Simply select “Flashcards” and you will find the ability to create individual flashcards and also file them into flashcard groups. The amount of flashcards you can create is unlimited. You have the ability to create, edit, and view your flashcards. There is a help file readily available to guide you through the process. You can also convert any of your study notes into a flashcard. You will see a new option at the bottom of your study note to “Make this note a flashcard”.
We hope you find this new feature helpful!
