September 13th, 2012 by Pat | No Comments | Filed in Class of 2013, Class of 2014, Class of 2015, Class of 2016

DynaMed is a new clinical decision making tool available at UAB.  It was jointly acquired by the UAB Health System and Lister Hill Library and is available on and off campus.

The DynaMed interface is clean and easy to use.

Search or browse for your topic to receive short summaries with links to available evidence.  DynaMed employes a 7 step evidence based methodology to rate information.  They assign one of three levels of evidence.

DynaMed is available on your mobile device as well.  The set up is a bit tricky though, we have instructions posted to help.  Give DynaMed a try and let us know what you think.

June 8th, 2012 by Pat | No Comments | Filed in Class of 2013, Class of 2014, Class of 2015

ClinicalKey is a multifaceted clinical information platform that supports research, learning, and point of care decision making.  The search engine, designed as a clinical insight tool used to discover the most relevant medical content, allows for intuitive searching  through controlled medical taxonomy.  ClinicalKey contains expert opinion content as well as the FirstConsult mobile application containing evidence-based information.  ClinicalKey is marketed as a replacement for the aging MD Consult platform, and includes more content and a faster speed-to-answer retrieval.

Lister Hill Library is soliciting anonymous feedback from our health professionals and students on the usefulness of ClinicalKey.   Please fill out a short survey on your experience.

The trial ends Monday, July 2, 2012.

Sketch Lister: Sketch Your Favorite Library Spot and Be Entered to Win a Prize!

June 7th, 2012 by Pat | No Comments | Filed in Class of 2013, Class of 2014, Class of 2015

Following the methods of Urban Sketchers, your task is to sketch your favorite library spot! The rules are simple:

  • Your sketch has to be of somewhere in or about a library. It doesn’t have to be of LHL, but of course we are partial to LHL.
  • You have to be a current UAB student, faculty, or staff.
  • This is a sketch so it can be as simple or as elaborate as you would like. It can be on a sticky note, coffee cup, old receipt, sketch paper, or whatever you have handy.
  • We’ll post your picture to our Web site but you still own it.
  • Send a scan or photo of your sketch to Lisa at lennis@uab.edu or bring it by the library and she’ll digitize it for you. Ask for Lisa at the HUB or drop your sketch and contact info off (don’t worry, your sketch will be returned to you).

We will draw for a winner on July 2!

We Need Your Feedback!

October 31st, 2011 by Pat | No Comments | Filed in Class of 2012, Class of 2013, Class of 2014, Class of 2015

Your feedback is VERY important to us, supporting you and your teachers is part of our mission and one of the more fun ways I get to spend my day.  The library is participating in the LibQual survey through November 8th.  It seems difficult at first glance but this nationally run survey is designed to help us identify gaps between what you expect from a library and what we provide.  Please, take a few minutes to fill it out and be honest.  We can’t improve if we don’t know where we need to make changes.   For example, comments from students on this survey a few years ago led us to restrict our physical access, students let us know loud and clear that they wanted to feel like this was their library, not a community center–and we listened.   This is your chance to tell us what changes would improve your experience with our library.  If that isn’t incentive enough there will be a drawing for some pretty cool prizes as well so don’t delay!
